I'm new to meditation. Is this program for me?

Absolutely. Our approach builds from the ground up.

I'm depressed. Is this the program for me?

Over time, meditation can help with a range of psychological disturbances. However, there are many approaches to meditation and not all approaches are appropriate for all meditators at all times. Please check with appropriate healthcare professionals before applying and contact us if more information is required about this particular approach.

I am a seasoned meditator from a tradition with its own form of practice. Is this program for me?

If you are open to learning a new method from the ground up, then this is the program for you. Those with a "root guru" are encouraged to seek their approval before applying.

How many hours per week do The Octaves require?

The Octaves demand an average of 10-12 hours/week for reading lessons, supplementary resources and team postings, plus completing one's own postings. This doesn't include meditations, which begin at 5-minutes/3 days week and eventually stabilize at 20- to 45-minutes/5-7 days/week.

I have commitments that might prevent me from posting on-time. Is this a big deal?

The short answer is yes. The posting process fulfills many purposes, not the least of which is the sense of shared experience. You'll gain from your discussion group partners, and they will gain from you. Timely posting is the fuel that drives the success of that experience. Of course there will be times when life calls. That's to be expected. However overall it is expected that all students will strive to post on-time every week.

Who are your Facilitators?

NMM Facilitators are highly experienced, caring and knowledgeable meditators. They are all graduates of the school who further completed a 2-year Facilitator-in-Training (FID) program. Having attained exemplary grasp of Natural Mind Meditation through years of practice and service, they facilitate with skill, humour and open-hearted compassion.

What if I want to continue to the next course in The Octaves, but can't right away?

The option when (or whether) to advance remains open to all students with Advancement Granted status (AG).

What are the required elements of The Octaves?

Required elements vary from course to course. The Octaves require timely completion of assigned meditation practices and postings (a 100-word Response and two 50-word Reflections weekly); one-on-one meditation check-in via Zoom and completion of a final assignment. Students are encouraged to check-in daily during Octaves to read and respond beyond assigned postings, to check for correspondence from the school and to maintain a meditation journal.

Are you a religious organization?

No, nor do we receive funding from any outside source.

What is a "meditation check-in" and why is it necessary?

Meditation check-in is essential to rapid progress on the path of Natural Mind Meditation. It gives you and your NMM facilitator a chance to meet face-to-face (via Zoom) to address challenges keeping you from going deeper in meditation. As Devenish (2012) writes, “question and answer (zhu len) between student and (Teacher), is really what leads to realization” (Natural Mind Meditation, Devenish, R.P., 2012, LuLu Press, p. 207).

Do you offer scholarships?

We do everything we can to support those interested willing to learn and practice meditation. If you are in financial need, please contact us to see if we can find an arrangement that works within your particular situation.
